Leadership in Education Master's Program

by Jenni Iwanski
(St. Charles, IL)

I am a month away from graduating from Capella. Throughout, I have been impressed with the Leadership in Education Master's program for many reasons. First, every course is well thought out and organized.

From the first day of class, I know exactly the content we will cover, the expectations, and the assignments. Another benefit I've experienced has been the relevance of the content. The material I've studied through my coursework has been topics relevant to my work; the information/texts are current and represent the newest thinking on the topic. In addition to the content being relevant, course projects are always customizable to my work situation; what I do for class I'm applying back in my work place.

Some instructors are outstanding; others are just okay. The amount of instructor interaction in the courseroom makes a difference and some instructors are more actively involved in the class. For me, this resulted in a better experience. However, since everything in the syllabus is so well laid out, if you don't have a very active instructor, you don't really suffer.

My writing has improved since beginning this Leadership in Education Master's program as writing is the way you "sound in" through this program. I think this is a component that makes Capella a rigorous program. You can not be a passive participant each week - if you aren't writing up and submitting to discussions, you won't get credit.

I have colleagues who attend local programs and listen to their experiences in the traditional schools. When they have a bad instructor, the entire course is difficult to get through. Their projects are extraneous to their work situations. They aren't always sure what they are required to do and play "guess what the instructor's thinking." I have never felt any of these at Capella. And then in addition, I get the benefits of being flexible with my on-line learning time.

Any program is what you put into it. I felt that I put a lot into Capella and I got a lot out of it. I would definitely recommend Capella University to others.

Leadership in Education Masters program at Capella
by: Mary

Good Jenni to know you've had such a wonderful experience with your Leadership in Education program at Capella. You're very right about the fact that what you put in any distance learning program is what you get. I also found time management is very crucial to one's success in studying online. One has to manage their time well or else it can get very overwhelming. Good luck in your future success!
