MEd in K-12 English as a Second Language Initial Licensure

I am currently attending Jones International University (JIU) online to receive my master's degree in Education and my initial licensure in the subject area of English as a Second Language (ESL). I am currently a high school ESL teacher but I need my clear licensure within 3 years of beginning my employment. I found JIU through an online college search and was pleased to see that they had a licensure program connected to the M.Ed. program.
It was very hard to find other online schools who offered this combination or this subject area at all. I also wanted an online college that left an open schedule to completing class work, as I am a single mother of one and could not follow a strict schedule. With JIU, the course load, however challenging, is lenient in its schedule. I have ample time to complete my reading and submit my assignments.
I started the M.Ed. in K-12(ESL) in April of this year (2009) and so far I am pleased. I am in my fifth course (the courses are 8 weeks long) and have a 4.0 GPA. The instructors take the time to communicate with their students outside of the course, and that can prove very helpful when I have a question.
There are forum discussions to communicate with fellow classmates about the course information and assignments, and that as well is helpful. They have an online college library, and a lot of the required texts you can find online as full texts without having to purchase the book. The cost is what I consider to be reasonable for receiving a masters degree, and I was pleased with the financial department for helping me with the initial financial aid process.
I would highly recommend this online university to any looking for distance or online learning for a degree in Education or Business.
